Ribbon Blossom Tutorial: Answers & An Explanation

I'm currently working on revamping the 'Ribbon Blossom' tutorial. I've been contacted by quite a few people that have tried to make one, using the tutorial, and haven't been happy with the results they've gotten.

I know the link is no longer available. I deleted it, and will explain my reason for doing so.

I want you all to know that I was also flattered-----beyond belief----that SO many people wanted to learn to do something that I do. I did ask people to call it a 'Ribbon Blossom' if they made one using my tutorial, because it felt really nice knowing that people were remembering me because of something they liked to look at. Heck, I think we'd all like to be remembered for something nice. Maybe I'm being too presumptuous here, but I do think that.

That was my first tutorial----EVER----so it was a definite learning experience for me. (I don't know how some of these ladies can put out a tutorial almost every day! Doing that one tutorial took me almost two days total!) I do feel like I may be able to explain each step a little more, and show you more pictures that will take you through the process in a more clearly-demonstrated way. It will be offered to you in a different format, also....but that information will be coming shortly. (I'm not trying to 'tease'....it's just that I don't have everything finished with it yet.)

Since I try very hard to be honest with those of you that do stop by my blog, I'll share with you the second reason that it has been deleted from my blog.

I received several very nasty emails and posts regarding the Ribbon Blossom Tutorial. One message, in particular, stated that I had 'no business whatsoever laying claim to the creation or invention of the pom-pom', stating that I had 'NO right to expect people throughout the world to give me personal credit for the 'pom-pom', or anything remotely resembling a 'pom-pom'. (These posts have now been deleted.)

First, let me clear up one thing: I never, ever laid claim to the 'pom-pom'. Ever. In a later entry, in which I tried to answer questions people had regarding the tutorial, I did explain that it looked somewhat LIKE a pom-pom.....for lack of a better way to describe it. I'm not a walking thesaurus---that is simply the first word that came to mind at the time.

Since I do not feel that I've ever intentionally tried to hurt anyone, in any way, through my blog, or in any of its entries, I was quite shocked to receive such rude messages and posts. To put it simply, many people asked me to show them how to make a 'Ribbon Blossom', and I put some pictures and words together to try to explain the process that I use to create them. I really didn't expect to be attacked for doing so, and I was quite stunned, to say the least. I didn't want to receive any more nasty messages, so I chose to remove the 'problem'. My parents raised me to live by the old quote 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all', and I try very hard to do that. Others may not, but I do.

I hope that those of you that are reading this do not feel like you are being punished for the actions of a handful of people. Honestly, I did feel 'punished'----for trying to do something nice---but it is NOT my intention to pass along that hurt or anger.

I apologize, wholeheartedly, to any of you that feel slighted or frustrated by the fact that I deleted my tutorial. Upsetting you is not my intention. Preventing further rude comments and emails is my only goal. That is the reason that I deleted the tutorial from my blog.

To my regular, faithful, wonderful readers.....the tutorial isn't gone, it's just being revamped. It will be offered-----to those that want it-----in the near future, but in a different format, via a different route.

I hope that you can understand my reasons for the decisions I made. Thank you for being so wonderful, and for reading this post.

I really do enjoy having a blog so much, and you all make my day in more ways than I could ever have imagined. The comments, posts and messages that you leave here really do mean a lot to me.

I hope you'll stop back again. (Soon!) :-) Have a wonderful evening, everyone!

Good Grief! Do people have nothing better to do with their time? I'm shocked that you would get such rude e-mails. Well, you are certainly handling it with grace and politeness.

The only thing I can think of is there are a few jealous people out there! Best to ignore them, as you are doing.

And keep on making your gorgeous ribbon blossoms!!

Hugs to you Pam! I am shocked at those rude comments you received. I love your work and loved your tutorial. Besides, you have such a wonderful, rich, detailed style to your cards and those ribbon blooms. I would say that almost everyone in the stamping community who sees one of those thinks immediately of you anyway. I saw nothing wrong mentioning your blog and tutorial when I attemped my hand at one and linked it to my gallery on SCS.

I will admit, I can't seem to get the blossoms to look the same way yours do. I think I am going wrong in the tying/fluffing phase. Anyway, I am super excited to hear there will be a revamped tutorial as I need the help.

It's easy to say "phoey" to the nay sayers, but quite another thing to feel it. I am so sorry you have had to endure those nasty commenters. I guess you will have to approve all submitted comments now.

Well, again ((HUGS)) to you -michelle

You have no idea how many times I check your blog to see if you have posted anything new. I love your creations! I'm glad I printed out your instructions for the ribbon blossom because I noticed that it was gone. Mine never look as pretty as yours, but I keep trying. I'll be anxious to see your new directions :-) Keep up the good work and hang in there!

OMGOSH! Some people! I thought your tutorial was wonderful and can't wait to see the re-vamped one! I tried to make a ribbon blossom, but it was AWFUL! lol...Yours are so gorgeous! Don't let the others get to you, you were only sharing your knowledge with us all! Your work is so inspiring, can't wait to see more!!!

Pam,
I am so glad that you are bringing your tutorial back!!!! I can't tell you how many times I have tried and tried. I give you credit but do call mine a ribbon blob since that what it seems to be. As far as the idiot making remarks about your tutorial let me say that your ribbon blossom in no way is like a pom pom. I'm a girl from the 60's and we made tons of those and the ribbon blossom is nothing like it so don't let them get you down. Seems like they should have better things to do.
Love your stuff and have been going through withdrawal!!!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!!

I guess people are entitled to their opinions, but there's no need to be rude about it to other people! I was really hoping that wasn't the case, but kinda figured it was.

I'm glad you're going to redo the blossom tutorial (I really want to learn how to do them!!) and I'm happy that you're going to let all the negativity slide right off.

Way to go!

Pam,
I am so sorry you had to go through that. Some people can be so cruel. Ignore them for they should not take any of your energy. I would love to see the new tutorial. I hope you send it out to those of us who loved the first one and may not remember all the steps.

Pam...forget those people! How awful...I have tried many times to make your Blossom and I think my biggest problem is the ribbon itself! Will you include in your tutorial some hints on what kind of ribbon works better than other kinds??? Anyway....can't wait to see the new tutorial and I check your blog out all the time! Your work is fantastic, and I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into every card you make.

I became real sad when I red your post. Why does people have to be so cruel. I just love your 'Blossoms' and I also have tried to make them. The result is not very flatering when one lokes at your ribbon blossoms.

I am so glad you are going to be reposting this. Your Ribbon Blossom creation was awesome(as you can see by the many requests for it) and no matter what anyone says, you have creativity and talent and you generously share. Please do not let a few sour, unhappy people get you thinking otherwise.

Marion said...

Oh dear, I am so very sorry this should have happened. Why do some people derive such pleasure and delight from hurting others? In any group there always seems to be (at least) one whose sole reason for joining-in is to point-score, snipe or back-bite. I stopped visiting a couple of wonderful forums for this very reason. Please don't take their maliciousness to heart. Remember, for every unkind person reading your blog, there are many, many others out here deriving enormous enjoyment and inspiration from your words and pictures. I do hope you will want to show us how to make ribbon blossoms at some time..... goodness knows I'd never manage to make anything resembling one without your help and instruction!
Hugs from Marion in the UK!

I am shocked beyond belief that people could be so viscious, malicious, petty and small minded as to send such nasty messages and emails. What is this world coming to :(

Your blog is awesome as are your ribbon blossoms. And not for all the tea in China could I ever get my dismal attempts to look like yours, but I live in hope lol.

So very sorry that you have been subjected to such cruelty, I hope these "people" (for want of a better word) haven't hurt you too much.

You have some of the most creative ideas and those rude people are probably just jealous because they are too busy criticizing other people to have a creative idea of their own! You just keep up your own wonderful work and hope that they get a life and quit messing with everyone else. I love your blog and look forward to the new tutorial.

I am really really really sorry you had some idiots, post crap on your blog. I have you in reader so, when you post, I get to read. I love the blog, love your art. I am sorry you had the nasty people post on here. I started moderating, to keep that crap out. I love your Ribbon flowers, and I hope you don't stop creating them, and teaching the technique. Your work is stunning. Good luck, don't let a few bad apples ruin your taste.

Michelle said...

Oh my gosh...how stupid.

Sometimes I read stuff that people have gotten nasty messages on their blog, etc & this really just disturbs me...for crying out loud people relax, get a life & don't be so rude!

People that put out blogs are not trying to "steal" anything, they are trying to share their creativity...let us do that.

Ann C. said...

Pam, those rude people are OCD and don't deserve the time of day. To be honest, there is nothing new under the sun, but there are lots of revisions of everything! You have revised the pom-pom using ribbon scraps and called it the "Ribbon Blossom". What a lovely "re-invention" with a charming name! The lovely name gives it distinction so we know it is not the ordinary pom-pom made with yarn. It is a beautiful addition to a card and certainly something very unique to YOUR beautiful style! You have a very special touch. Please don't let hateful OCD people stop you from creating. I know you have to have a thick skin out here on the internet. Blow them off and focus on all the wonderful comments and thanks you get from those of us who love your style and thank you for showing us the Ribbon Blossom!

Iowa Gal said...

You do BEAUTIFUL work ,Pam. Forget about those rude people as they aren't worth the time nor the trouble. They are jealous and some childish people just have to find fault. When you start to worry about what they said, they have won. Remember that.

I am so sorry to hear about the attack you received regarding your ribbon tutorial. I am so sick of readers who think they can anonymously leave the most hurtful comments. Some people are so miserable in life, and shouldn't even bother to comment if they can't say something nice. I love your work and your blog, and say "bug the heck out of those people and toot your ribbon tutorial loud. Last Christmas a meany left a comment re my pink Christmas project and they said, "pink isn't a Christmas colour." Know what I did? I made a lot of posts re pink Christmas cards, and linked my readers to any SCS that used pink for the holidays.

Why are people so hateful? You never once said or implied that you invented the pom-pom. I think you did a great job in taking something old and making it something new. It just blows my mind the absolute rudeness of people. I should never be surprised because unfortunately I see it everyday. You need to do whatever it is to make yourself comfortable and I think your loyal readers and friends (myself included!) totally understand! Usually these kind of people need to lash out and find fault with someone else because of an area in their life that is unhappy or unfulfilled and I try to tell myself that I should really feel sorry for them than be angry. After all, look at all the positive comments you've just generated!! You keep doin' what you're doin' because I love it and I can't wait to see your new tutorial! You're an amazing talent and an inspiration!!

AND especially those who invest so much time in putting step by step instructions on their blog so that we beginners can take part. So sorry about the hurt and hassle you went through.

"the tutorial isn't gone, it's just being revamped. It will be offered-----to those that want it-----in the near future, but in a different format, via a different route"

Hmmm, I think I'll be stalking the Wednesday tutorials on SCS - just in case! If this is the case, Congratulations!!

Dear girl, your ribbon blossoms are "the bomb" and I am delighted every time I see one - either on your work or someone else's...because whether they remember to give credit or not -- you are the original ribbon blossom/pom-pom/whatever you want to call it gal!!

The comments to this post make it obvious how loved you, your work, and your blog are. Good for you for keeping your chin up and taking the high road.

Blessings, fellow stamper! ~Melissa

WOW! I just started reading your blog and LOVE it! I can't believe that you'd receive nasty comments about a tutorial. There are very few really original ideas ... and it's very difficult to give the original crafter credit.

I hope that you re-post your tutorial, your work is great.

Mean people should just form a group of their own!! I heard about your tutorial on SCS & am looking forward to seeing the 'new' one.

Keep the faith!!

I just stumbled across your blog from a link from SCS and I love it! I'm new to this craft and was looking forward to learning how to tie the wonderful bows. I can't wait to see the revamped tutorial. People who make nasty comments need to find something better to do with that energy! Don't let them stop you...

Looking forward to learning from you,

Pam,
Let me jump on the bandwagon here, and say how much I love your blog, and your beautiful work! I have been in AWE of that gorgeous ribbon blossom for a while now! Unfortunately, I haven't visited in a few weeks, and missed the now deleted tutorial. But I look forward to the re-vamped tutorial with excitement!!! (I'm taking care of that right now by subscribing! Yay!)

Please, don't even give those nasty people the time of day.... and just keep going on creating beautiful things to inspire us all!
Have a great day!!

Hi Pam
Greetings from the UK. I've just come across your blog while blog hopping & have loved looking at all your beautiful cards & reading about your life (my eldest daughter was also confirmed last month & my 8 year old received her First Holy Communion on 25th May).

I am absolutely speachless (doesn't happen very often lol!!) at the mentality of some people and how they feel justified in acting in such a hurtful way. I am a great believer in 'what goes around comes around' & try to act accordingly. I too am disappointed to have missed your ribbon blossom tutorial & would love to know how to access your new tutorial when it is ready.
I will definately be back for another visit as your work is inspirational.
Sharon :-)x

I'm so sorry that you had to encounter the "mean ladies"...I can't imagine people being rude over a tutorial! What is the world coming to??? I was searching for the tutorial, and came upon this post. I will look forward to the new one, and hopefully the ability to make some blossoms like yours! They are stunning! :D

I am so sorry someone was rude and mean to you. The stamping community is so generous about sharing their inventions and discoveries and that is what makes it so special. Please do not be discouraged by someone so mean spirited for there are so many who really appreciate your efforts to share your ribbon blossoms and anything else you would like to share. I have never, ever seen a ribbon blossom like your creations, and would love to learn how you do these! Also, mean people exist in this world to challenge the patience of the good folk - and we all know goodness prevails. :) So sorry to read of your experience - but know you are admired and respected and your creations are inventive and 'eye candy' for the soul!

Hi there. Just to let you know I love your Ribbon Blossoms. There are many ideas that are re-vamped all over the world and called by different names, so don't let it get you down. I love your creations, don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. I'm astonished at how vindictive some people can be, they must be jealous of your fantastic talent. You go girl.

Keep smiling.

Live Debbie xx

P.S. I'd love to have access to the tutorial when it's ready.

Hi Pam,
I was referred by SCS's "Milwaukee Mommy" (Michele Peterman) to look at your ribbon blossoms on your cards. When I was gazing through your gallery, all I could think of was "Holy Cow! This girl's amazing!" I have read through all the comments on the SCS thread about your troubles with the nasty commentators. I cannot believe how awful people can be to others. It's so shameful! I'll be subscribing to your blog ASAP and will look fwd to your re-vamped tutorial. I love your creativity and everything in your SCS gallery. God Bless!

ok so color me late, but i am just now seeing this post and it upsets me. It's YOUR Blog for crying out loud - if you want to create a pom-pom and call it a ribbon blossom - then so be it! I loved the blossom, also tried to do it but it didn't work so I figured I was ribbon challenged! I would love to see the new tutorial and am hoping you haven't given up on it!

Pam,
I think your Ribbon Blossoms are BEAUTIFUL and would love to be included once you revamp your instructions! Those that were "not nice"...okay, downright RUDE, they are just jealous because they either CAN'T create something so beautiful that everyone wants to learn how to create or that they didn't do it first!!! Your work is phenominal...keep creating!

What a wonderful accent to us on your projects. As many people who have read your blog I also would love to know how to make these. Looking forward to when you have it ready.

It is a shame that people can't rejoice for the accomplishments of others but instead allow their jealousies inflict hurt. I hope you will soon have a blossom tutorial because I really want to make this and I KNOW that there is no way I can accomplish it without instructions. So please take pity on me (and others) and make your new tutorial available soon!! You don't want me to develop a ribbon phobia, now do you??? LOL. tx2stamper

Hi Pam

I have just been directed to your blog for your ribbon blossom tutorial. Great blog by the way, I would love the new tutorial when it is available. I can't believe that people can be so nasty on blogs, it is like they have nothing better to do with with sad lives.

Keep your chin up and carry on blogging - don't let them get you down.

I know this is very late but I just had a link to your Wonderful, wonderful blog and although the ribbon blossom tutorial has been deleted, I have spent an inspiring 45 mins just looking at your wonderful and beautiful creations. I cannot believe that there are such nasty small minded people in this world who have nothing better to do with their time than to visit blogs and leave disparagng comments, I put it down to jealousy they could never produce anything as perfect as you have here. Will come back daily from now on and hope that I may find the link to your blossoms someday. Don't let these people get to you honey, you are much better than them
